President Mohamed Muizzu has removed Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim from a WhatsApp group used to communicate directives to lawmakers from the People's National Congress (PNC), according to multiple sources.
Sources familiar with the matter told Dhauru that President Muizzu personally removed Nazim from the group.
According to the sources, the group is managed by a single administrator, identified as the President himself.
No official reason has been disclosed regarding Nazim’s removal.
Following the parliamentary elections, President Muizzu had stated that he would personally relay government instructions and guidance to elected PNC members.
Nazim was recently removed from several parliamentary committees.
In the recent local council by-elections, the ruling PNC also failed to win seats in most of the five islands within Nazim’s constituency.
Last month, several PNC lawmakers told Dhauru that efforts were underway within the party to gather signatures for a no-confidence motion against Nazim in his capacity as Deputy Speaker.
However, Ibrahim Falah later denied those reports.
