Weather to improve from Monday, says Met Office
The Met Office also expects generally fair weather over the next five days, with relatively calm sea conditions.
The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has forecast an improvement in weather conditions from Monday following several days of rain across parts of the country.
Southern and central atolls have experienced persistent rainfall over the past two to three days. The Met Office also issued a Yellow Alert for the central region on Saturday night as conditions deteriorated.
A Met Office official said on Sunday that rain is expected to continue in the southern and central atolls throughout the day, while the northern atolls are likely to remain largely unaffected.
"However, by tomorrow, the weather is expected to clear up. We might see occasional scattered showers here and there, but no severe weather is anticipated," the official said.
The Met Office also expects generally fair weather over the next five days, with relatively calm sea conditions.
According to the Met Office, the recent rainfall is associated with the southwest monsoon, locally known as Hulhangu. While short periods of rain and squally weather are common during the season, the authority said prolonged unsettled weather is not expected over the coming days.
