Police have arrested two people for allegedly entering a house in Addu City, Maradhoofeydhoo, that had been closed under a court order for drug-related offences.

The property, Ummeedhuge, was closed on 15 June under the Drugs Act and is subject to a three-month closure order.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the two individuals were arrested on suspicion of entering the property and using drugs. They were identified as:

  • Ahmed Sharath, 32

  • Aishath Saleem, 37

Police said both suspects were brought before the court, which ordered them to be remanded in custody for 15 days.

The police noted that entering or leaving a property sealed under a court order during the closure period without authorisation is a criminal offence.

They also warned that legal action will be taken against anyone who unlawfully enters or damages such properties.

Since amendments to the Drugs Act introduced the closure of premises used for drug-related activities, four properties in Addu have been closed under court orders:

  • Ummeedhuge, Maradhoofeydhoo

  • Laamiyageaage, Hithadhoo

  • Mylocityge, Hithadhoo

  • Boalhadhandhuge, Maradhoo
