Severe weather damages homes and farmland across Maldives
The NDMA said on Saturday that it had received reports of weather-related damage from several islands.

Strong winds, tidal surges and heavy rain have caused damage to homes, infrastructure and farmland on several islands across the Maldives, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
Adverse weather has affected the country since Thursday, with the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) issuing Yellow Alerts for large parts of the Maldives on Friday and Friday night.
The NDMA said on Saturday that it had received reports of weather-related damage from several islands.
Among the reported incidents were roofs being partially blown off two houses in Addu Feydhoo and a breadfruit tree falling onto the roof of a kitchen.
The authority said tidal surges caused damage in D. Rinbudhoo and L. Isdhoo.
According to the Rinbudhoo Island Council, high tides reached residential areas, with waves striking coastal structures and floodwater entering homes. The council deployed sandbags to reduce flooding in affected areas.
Kinbidhoo constituency MP Ali Ashraq said severe weather had also damaged farmland in Th. Kandoodhoo.
In a statement, Ashraq said chilli crops, breadfruit trees and banana trees were damaged by heavy rain and strong winds. He said the affected crops represented months of work by local farmers.
"I am bringing this issue to the attention of the relevant government authorities to secure the necessary assistance for affected farmers and to discuss preventive measures for the future," Ashraq said.
The NDMA said it is providing assistance to those affected by the reported incidents.
Although adverse weather continues to affect parts of the country and White Alerts remain in force in several areas, MET has forecast that conditions are expected to improve from Sunday.
