Hospital projects for N. Kendhikulhudhoo and Lh. Hinnavaru have been handed over to contractors on Thursday.
In January last year, it was announced that the state was looking for people to build 30-bed hospitals in the two islands under the principle of contractor financing. In addition to the two islands it was announced at that time that a hospital would be built in H.A. Ihavandhoo as well.
The government had made two announcements without anyone applying for it. After winning the bid, the hospital work in the two islands was awarded to SAS e Construction Pvt Ltd.
The hospital at Kendhikulhudhoo and Hinnavaru is estimated to be completed within 18 months. Both the hospitals are costly in construction.
