Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has temporarily suspended service at two bus stops on Ameenee Magu as reconstruction of the road began Monday.

Ameenee Magu redevelopment project was launched on 30 August, but Road Development Corporation (RDC) kicked off physical works on Monday after sealing off one of its sections.

According to RDC:

  • Ameenee Magu construction began near Lonuziyaaraiy Park at Henveiru ward.

  • The road has been sealed off upto Irudheymaa Hingun street in front of Dharubaaruge.

  • Bus services on Ameenee Magu will also be adapted.

MTCC said that two stops on Ameenee Magu will be temporarily shut down to give way for the project. Those stops are:

  • Dharubaaruge stop (R11-12)

  • Children's park stop (R11-13)

"However, we assure the people that bus service on Ameenee Magu route will continue," MTCC said, in an announcement.

Planning ministry signed an agreement worth MVR 84 million with the state-owned RDC on 3 July to redevelop Ameenee Magu within seven months.

Project scope:

  • 1.79 kilometres of asphalt to be laid on the road

  • Bus stops and parking zones will be established

  • Street lights to be installed

  • Tree pits will be placed to make the road greener

  • Cable trays will be installed on two sides of the road

  • Junctions to be placed for HV cables

  • Wheelchair access

  • Braille blocks will be installed on pavements to facilitate the blind

  • Traffic signs and bumpers will be built

  • Water drainage systems will be established

The potholes and uneven lay of Ameenee Magu is a complaint of many people who find it difficult to drive on the road, and if it rains, the road gets flooded quickly.
