"Coming, coming, coming," is the phrase reiterated by planning minister Mohammad Aslam.
He was speaking at an event held Saturday morning to inaugurate Kudagiri picnic island, which was developed by the government for the people of Male. He said that Kudagiri is proof that the government is doing things for the people.
"Coming, coming, coming," is Aslam's response to criticism of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his government, both within the MDP and the opposition.
At first, Aslam climbed up to the podium on the beach of the reclaimed island and said that there was not much to say about Kudagiri. With the official opening of the island, President Solih's promise has been fulfilled, he said.
"As far as Kudagiri is concerned, I don't think there is anything else I can say. One of the important promises made by the President to the people of Male city has been fulfilled. Today its been fulfilled," Aslam said, waving his hands.
He said that despite two years of hardship due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the government has been fulfilling its promises made to the people in the last four years without "discriminating against a small islandor big town".
"It's a day to get back something big that's been lost," Aslam said.
"And the bridge will come too, it will come for sure. Housing will also come. Transport will come, too. Coming, it's coming, it's all coming."
MDP president and former President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed, who contested the MDP primaries held last month, has said that the government's projects are always "coming, coming". The opposition coalition has also criticised the government for its delays in a similar way.
