Youth minister Ahmed Mahloof announced on Friday that Kuwait's famous Qari-Sheikh Mishary bin Rashid Alafasy will be the special guest at the 'Rann Taj', meaning Golden Crown, Quran competition to be held in the Maldives.
Mahloof made the announcement in a Facebook post after meeting Sheikh Mishary during his current visit to Kuwait. Mahloof declined to give further details.
'Rann Taj' is a big Quran recitation competition announced by the government to be held during the fasting month of Ramadan so that adults from all parts of the country can participate.
According to a notification issued by the youth ministry, every local in the age group of 16-45 years will be eligible to participate in the tournament. The competition, jointly organised by the youth ministry and Islamic ministtry, will be broadcast live on Raajje TV. MVR 300,000 as prize money for the winner of the competition has been proposed.
The deadline for participation was at January 10.
