Work on three new airports contracted to MTCC will be completed and opened by the end of this year, CEO Adam Azim said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the airport at GDh. Faresmathoda on Wednesday evening, Azim said that on an average, MTCC is completing a project every 11 days during this session.

As part of the government's policy to strengthen and develop the country's transport sector, it is the government's promise to develop an airport in every area within 20-30 minutes reach from inhabited islands.

As per the policy, three airports are already under construction by MTCC. These airports are:

  • M. Muli airport - Construction of runway to begin next month

  • F. Magoodhoo airport - Construction of runway to begin in June

  • R. Alifushi airport - Construction of runway to begin in August

Azim assures that the three airports will be completed within this year.

"When the three airports are opened during this term, he will become the first president to develop and open six airports in a single term," Azim said, praising President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who was present at the ceremony.

  • The first airport to be developed and opened since this government came to power is HA. Hoarafushi airport

  • GDh. Maavarulu airport, which was a project begun by the previous government, was completed and opened during this government

Azim said that the shore protection work at Kulhudhuffushi Airport would be completed before installing runway lighting in the area and the work will be completed by next month.

Azim also assured that the expansion of Maafaru Airport, which has been handed over to the company, would be completed within a year.

The project, funded by a loan from Abu Dhabi Fund, was handed over to MTCC on December 6.

The state company is also working on a causeway connecting Faresmathoda with Faresmathoda airport.
