6 months after Azhan's death, investigation still incomplete

The police had said at the time that it would take two to three months to get final results.

More than six months after the death of Mohamed Azhan, who was found dead while searching for him  as a missing person, the investigation into his death has to yet yield any results.

Azhan had been missing since September 18 and his body was found in a state of descomposition on October 2. The body was sent abroad to ascertain the exact cause of death and a post-mortem was conducted, but the police did not reveal much about it.

Asked about an update on the case, a police spokesperson said on Monday that the investigation is yet to be completed and those who need to be questioned are still being questioned.

"The investigation into Azhan's death is still going on. Those who need to be questioned in the case are being interrogated and other necessary work is being done as part of the investigation," the spokesperson said.

During a press conference on October 15, the police revealed that the preliminary post-mortem results showed that Azhan did not suffer any major injuries on his body. The police had said at the time that it would take two to three months to get final results.

The police are yet to reveal these results of the post-mortem. When asked about it, the police advised to seek information through the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

According to the police:

  • When Azhan's body was found, it was completely decomposed 

  • There is no evidence to suggest that he was murdered

  • There are no suspects in the case

After the post-mortem, Azhan's body was brought back to the country and buried on October 14.
