28 schools to have vocational training sessions
The minister said vocational training is now a top priority for the ministry.

In a bid to pass on and enrich the specialised skills practiced in islands, the education ministry has decided to start vocational education in 28 schools across the country in August.
Education minister Dr Aishath Ali made the remarks while responding to a question from Keyodhoo MP Hassan Gasim during Monday's parliament session on whether the ministry was planning to make any efforts to teach the students labour and skills needed to prepare them for life, as is the ministry’s vision.
The minister said vocational training is now a top priority for the ministry. The minister also said that under the Education Act, it has been made mandatory to include labour and skills in the formal education system.

Work is underway and the process is underway

The ministry is initially looking at conducting a workshop on skilled labour in every atoll of the country

A total of 28 schools, including Male and Atolls, have been identified and it has been decided to start from these schools

The ministry has also received funding from the World Bank for this purpose

Students in lower grades will be given priority to learning general skills to inculcate themselves in labour

Students will be taught the most important work done in an island from the school

Work is currently underway to identify such works in rural areas and arrange for the resources that would be required

It is expected that 28 schools will be able to start vocational training by August
