MTCC awarded MVR 19m project for Hithaadhoo coastal protection
By completion of the project, 7,800 cubic metres will be covered with sand to expand Hithaadhoo beach area.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was awarded a project on Tuesday for coastal protection works in B. Hithaadhoo.
The issue of erosion is a matter of concern for Hithaadhoo with a population of 1,420. The north, south and east sides of the island also show the effects of erosion, while a large area on the southern side of the island has already been eroded.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, MTCC said that once the coastal protection project is completed, the concerns of the people will be addressed.
The project was awarded for MVR 16.96 million to be completed within 180 days. Under the project:

7,800 cubic metres will be covered with sand to expand the beach

Geobag revetment to be installed in 610-metre area

Groins will be installed in 230-metre area
