Olive Ridley Project (ORP), an organisation working to protect sea turtles in Maldives, said on Friday that the ghost net was removed by a team from JOALI Maldives resort.
After seven hours of work, it was removed from a shallow reef area of the Maldives and towed to the resort, the organisation said.
According to ORP, various samples and data were collected from the net after it was removed from the sea. This, it said, would help in improving efforts to remove the various items released into the sea this way.
The organisation has requested people to report the same through the ORP's website if any ghost nets are found.
