The term of the council members is two years. No one can become a member for two consecutive terms.

Three members have been elected to the Maldives Media Council (MMC).
A member representing the media and two members from the general public were elected in the MMC elections held on Saturday.
In the elections, two candidates were fielded by the media. Four candidates applied for general membership. Of these, the ones elected to MMC:

Adam Ali of Habaru Online on behalf of the media: 64 votes

Jailam Thaufeeg, Basari Hiya, F. Bilehdhoo: 49 votes

Ali Ismail, Roshneege, F. Dharanboodhoo: 43 votes
