Maldives fires Indian teacher wanted in fake certificate scandal

His family cooperated in handing him over to the police.

An Indian teacher who was wanted by the Indian police in connection with a degree certificate forgery case, has been dismissed from his job in the Maldives, Indian media reported on Tuesday.

According to Indian newspapers, Kerala police are looking for a man named Abin C Raj in connection with a case of making and selling fake certificates. He used to work as a career guidance and life coach, according to the reports.

Kerala police have also issued an Interpol red corner notice for him on charges of certificates forgery.

According to Indian media, Abin had been fired from his job as a teacher in Maldives. His work permit has also been cancelled.

Earlier, the Maldivian education ministry had said that a case of alleged fraud against a teacher working in Maldives has come to their attention. The ministry said the matter would be investigated and necessary action would be taken.

According to Indian media, Abin was arrested at the Cochin airport on his way back to India on Tuesday.

Police recovered the fake degree certificate submitted by Nikhil Thomas at MSM College, Kayamkulam.
