United Suvadive Republic’s leader Abdulla Afeef's eldest son Ibrahim Afeef has been admitted to the ICU of a Seychelles hospital.
The United Suvadive Republic was a short-lived breakaway state from the Maldives between 1958 and 1963 consisting of the three southern atolls of the Maldive archipelago: Addu Atoll, Huvadhu Atoll and Fuvahmulah.
Heritage ministry research analyst Mohammed Najih, who is close to Ibrahim Afeef, told Atoll Times on Saturday that Afeef's condition became serious and was admitted to the ICU after returning to Seychelles from the Hajj pilgrimage.
Afeef returned to Seychelles on Wednesday and was directly airlifted to hospital, Najih said.
Ibrahim Afeef, now in his late 60s, is the chair of the Seychelles Media Commission. Afeef is also the vice-president of the Islamic Society of the country.
Afeef's nephew, Ahmed Afeef, is now the Vice President of Seychelles.
At the end of his rule, Abdulla Afeef left the Maldives and moved with his family to Seychelles. Afeef passed away in 1993. Ibrahim Afeef was almost nine years old when he arrived in Seychelles.
