The last parliamentary term of the year is scheduled to begin on Monday after a two-month recess.

The second term of the parliament concluded on June 22.

The first sitting of the third term of the year will start at 9am on Monday. However, the agenda of the sitting has not yet been announced.

According to the rules of procedure of the parliament, the sessions of the parliament will be held in three terms each year.

  • First term: February to April

  • Second term: May to June

  • Third term: August to November

The first sitting of each term will be held on the first Monday or Thursday following the date of commencement of that term. The closing sitting shall be held on the last Thursday or Monday of the session.

By the end of the second term, parliament was in a deadlock as the standing committees of the parliament had not been reconstituted. The no-confidence motions against speaker Mohamed Nasheed and deputy speaker Eva Abdulla were also pending.

Although the committees were formed by holding extraordinary sessions while the parliament was in recess, the committees will change again with the registration of the newly formed The Democrats party.
