Pres makes pledges to Addu with dedicated Ufaaveri Addu manifesto

President Solih explained some of the promises contained in the Addu section of the MDP manifesto and made many other promises.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday launched the ‘Ufaaveri Addu' manifesto, with specific pledges for the southernmost atoll if he secures a second term in Saturday's presidential election. 

The MDP launched the Addu section of its manifesto for the next five years at the ‘Ufaaveri Amaan Raajje’ rally held at the City Bazaar area of Hithadhoo in Addu on Thursday evening.

  • Connecting Addu with RTL system

Industry to make Addu a modern business hub

  • Encourage investment in hubs

  • Develop the port and make it a tax free zone

  • Economic growth and employment opportunities

Develop a zone for integrated tourism 

  • Development of Savaaheli island for tourism

  • More resources to add value to tourism

  • Creating a favorable environment for sports tourism

Happy social progress in Addu

  • Sports facilities and indoor sports complex

  • Expansion and improvement of services of Addu Equatorial Hospital

  • Disability management and rehabilitation centre

In his speech, President Solih explained some of the promises contained in the Addu section of the MDP manifesto and made other promises. These include:

  • All roads in Addu will be developed to modern standards

  • Construction of 1,000 flats in Addu in the first phase of housing units/flats

  • Provision of water, sewerage, electricity services and roads in dry lands and tourism zones

  • Establishment of an industrial zone; establish the necessary facilities for vehicle importers, provide the necessary training to repair vehicles and facilitate the re-export of vehicles

  • Changes to be made to sell goods sold by STO and Maldive Gas at the same price as in Male; some of the changes will be announced on Friday

  • Construction of a business incubation centre, co-working space and conference facility

  • Eco-tourism development in protected areas

  • Construction of a racing track

  • Construction of an indoor sports complex and additional sports facilities

  • A picnic island

  • Construction of a special centre for climate research and marine studies

  • Construction of a disability management centre

  • Construction of parks and outdoor gyms in all areas

  • Establish a university and increase access to higher education

  • Expansion of AgroNet services and increase capacity of MIFCO facility

  • For Maradhoo: volleyball court, badminton court, ice plant

  • To Maradhoo-Feydhoo: a football field

  • For Feydhoo: a skate park, a city hotel on the former football stadium, a synthetic running track and a handball court

  • For Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo: all services available from the city council office will be made available from Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, construction of the road, an indoor sports complex, a new social centre and a running track in Hulhudhoo, more beach areas in Hulhudhoo. Expansion, solving the problems of the school, establishing water and sewerage system in the tourism zone.

"These are some things that are for Addu, targeting the whole of Addu and individual islands. We have a vision. That vision is to develop all the islands of Addu through a comprehensive change. And to ensure that all residents of Addu have access to a prosperous life," the president said.
