Education minister Dr Aishath Ali said Wednesday that that students will not be able to see any other way than the example set by teachers.
In her address on the occasion of International Teachers' Day, the minister spoke about the responsibilities and work of teachers. She noted that teachers should also be exemplary in setting an example for students.
Aishath said that students will learn lessons from the manner in which teachers interact with students and communities. She also said that teachers who meet students at the age of most influence in their lives are the ones who shape the children's conduct and relationships.
The minister requested teachers to set an example in the best manner possible and based on:
-
Love of religion and the country
-
Caring for and respecting each other
-
Economising
-
Conduct based on Islamic principles
Aishath said that teachers are the ones who implement every meaningful change in the education sector. The minister said that while such a huge responsibility has been placed on teachers, there are important things to consider.
The minister noted that changes need to be brought to the teaching system to build awareness of students as the world develops at a rapid pace. She noted:
-
Even if chalk and board are sufficient, today students need skills, technology and creativity
-
Although lessons are learned from the four walls of the class, students now have to live in a technologically-savvy society; teachers have to compete with screens that display different colours to attract the attention of the students.
"It is these teachers who are behind every revolutionary change in the education sector," Aishath said.
