Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), which worked in coalition with the MDP in the first round of the presidential election, will soon realise that its decision to break the coalition and back the opposition candidate Dr Mohamed Muizz in the second round is a bad decision, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said Wednesday.
The MDA council on Tuesday decided to break the coalition with the MDP candidate, President Solih, to support Dr Mohamed Muizz.

At the council meeting held on Tuesday, MDA leader Ahmed Siyam Mohamed proposed not to join any party in the second round

However, its member Mohamed Abbas proposed to break the coalition and move forward with the PPM-PNC

Abbas' motion was supported by party vice-president Ali Mauroof and passed by a majority of 33 out of 36 members
Addressing campaign teams in Addu on Wednesday, the president said the MDA's withdrawal from the coalition is not a matter of concern and he accepts and thanks the party for what it has done in the first round.
"However, I would say that our hopes are very sweet. They will soon see that their decision is not a good decision," he said.
