V. Rakeedhoo School, which was closed 16 years ago, resumed classes on Sunday after it was converted into a satellite school.
Rakeedhoo, which is currently the least populated island in Maldives, is the only island in Maldives that does not provide education until Sunday. However, the government had decided to set up a satellite school in the island in January last year.
The school has started classes this Sunday with just three students. Satellite classes will be attended at school, but the learning will be conducted online. The classes will be sistered with a school in Male.
With that:
-
Satellite schools have already been set up in six islands across the country now
-
In addition to Rakeedhoo, schools in B. Fehendhoo and Fulhadhoo, ADh. Dhidhoo, V. Thinadhoo, and GA. Kondey take classes online
-
With the introduction of classes in Rakeedhoo, every inhabited island in the Maldives will now have education accessible to all children under state supervision
