Water, sewerage systems in 11 islands in 3 years
The government has stated that water and sewerage services will be provided in all inhabited islands of the Maldives by the end of next year.

Water and sewerage systems have been established in just 11 islands in the past three years, despite President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's pledge to establish clean drinking water and sewerage systems in all inhabited islands before the end of his term.
According to statistics shared by the President's Office, water and sewerage systems have been established in nine islands:

Two islands have seen the establishment of water systems:

In December last year, the government awarded contracts for establishing water and sewerage systems in islands that had not been handed over to companies. Five companies were contracted to establish sewerage systems in 16 islands and water systems in 23 islands.
The projects worth MVR 920 million were awarded to:

Fenaka Corporation (water systems in 16 islands; sewerage systems in five islands)

STELCO (water system in one island)

Marketec Maldives (water systems in three islands; sewerage systems in two islands)

Duplex Private Limited (water and sewerage systems in two islands)

SAS-E Construction (water and sewerage system in one island)
Work is currently underway in:

Sewerage systems in six islands

Water and sewerage systems in 88 islands
The government has previously stated that if the work in the islands continues as scheduled, water and sewerage systems in all the islands will be completed by the end of September next year. Upon completion of the projects, the government has stated that water and sewerage services will be provided in all inhabited islands of the Maldives by the end of next year.
