The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has ordered some government companies to suspend their activities in cases where they could cause irreparable damage to the state.

The ACC has been issuing notices to some government companies not to do certain things.

They include:

  • Government agencies, offices, institutions, government and government-owned companies have been asked to behave in a certain manner in order to reduce the incentives for corruption

  • The replacement of fuel storage tanks in some islands served by the Fenaka Corporation has been stopped

  • Commercial units of police flats built in Hulhumale have been stopped

  • Urbanco has suspended the long-term lease of the Farukolhufushi area that was being leased for various activities in Hulhumale Phase II

  • Urbanco has also been ordered not to do five things during the ongoing transitional phase, including the sale and leasing of land

The ACC said in a statement on Wednesday that the investigations into the cases are ongoing and that if not stopped, the state and the people could suffer irreparable damage.

The ACC said:

  • The notices are provisional; If the notice needs to be changed after considering the matters, such places will be notified

  • The suspensions will not include activities that disrupt the essential services provided by the agencies to the people

  • The commission is working to resolve the cases as soon as possible
