Cyclist in hit and run jailed for 2 years
Shamman pleaded guilty to the charges at the preliminary hearing but said that it was an accident and not deliberate.

The Criminal Court on Monday sentenced the driver of a motorcycle to two years in jail for an accident that seriously injured National University lecturer Ali Hafeez last June.
The speeding motorcycle hit Hafeez early morning of June 28 as he was leaving the mosque after the dawn prayer. The accident happened in front of the mosque near the National Stadium.

The cyclist, Shamman Abdul-Shakoor, Lagoonview/R.Inguraidhoo, was charged with assault.
Shamman pleaded guilty to the charges at the preliminary hearing, but said that it was an accident and not deliberate.
The Criminal Court ruled that Shamman was guilty of causing injury under Section 120(a)(1) of the Penal Code as he had pleaded guilty to the offense of assault.
Although he was sentenced to two years in jail under the Criminal Procedure Code, Shamman will have to spend one year, 10 months and 29 days in jail after deducting the time spent in custody in connection with the case.
Shamman fled the scene without stopping. A video that circulated on social media also shows his friends helping him flee.
