The Maldives National Party (MNP) parliamentary group has lost its status in parliament.
The MNP lost its status in parliament after Villimale MP Ahmed Usham resigned from his seat on Friday to take up the post of Attorney General in the new government.
According to Article 33 of the rules of procedure of the parliament, if the number of MPs representing a party at any time falls below three, the party will lose its status to be represented in parliament.
“Therefore, I declare that the MNP has lost its status under Article 33(n)(2) of the rules of procedure to represent the party in parliament,” Aslam said.
