Hussain Amr, the former Managing Director of the State Trading Organisation (STO), who contested Saturday’s Democrats internal election for party president, expressed his dissatisfaction with the outcome of the election and recalled the sacrifices he made so far for The Democrats.

The provisional results of the election have not yet been announced. Amr contested against Democrats founder and interim chairman Hassan Latheef. Both announced their victory on Saturday.

Amr poured out his grief in a post on 'X' on Sunday.

"Knowing that there will be winners and losers in elections, I always contest elections. I have contested many elections. Some elections are very successful because God willed. Others I lost but I do not complain about it," Amr began.

With that, Amr then reminded the leaders of The Democrats of the sacrifices he had made for them.

“Those of you who have worked with me in politics for the past 15-plus days know that I am, where concessions are due, big-hearted and concessionary,” he wrote, listing some senior MDP positions he had held before he left the party to form The Democrats.

According to Amr, who also served as the managing director of STO in the MDP government until the formation of The Democrats, he backed out of the MDP chairmanship election and the Democrats' presidential ticket. He said he did it for the sake of common interest.

"That is, this work is something I have done with love and sacrifice. However, when I find something to be going wrong, I call it out straight. It is for everyone's good," wrote Amr, who became running mate of presidential candidate Ilyas Labeeb after having expressed interest in contesting against him.

With that, he then said that even if he is unhappy with Saturday’s election results, he doesn’t want to say anything more about it.

He ended the post by thanking the members who worked for him during the election campaign.

Some members who campaigned for Amr expressed their dissatisfaction with the postponement of the results of the election, which saw about 5,800 people eligible to vote.

The party is working to release the results at 2 p.m., Sunday.
