President Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday decided to allocate all official Hajj quotas granted to the Maldives each year to the Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited.

This decision followed discussions on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs during Sunday's cabinet meeting.

Presently, 6,000 pilgrims are registered in the state-owned Hajj Corporation queue to perform the pilgrimage, of which 4,706 have collected and paid their dues.

The cabinet deliberated allocating the official Hajj quotas administered to the Maldives annually to the Hajj Corporation to avoid prolonging their wait, improve the quality of service, and increase the general public's confidence in the quality of service provided by the Hajj Corporation.

In recent years, the Maldives Hajj Mission and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs have received several complaints concerning the quality of services provided by various companies transporting pilgrims, including allegations of overcharging.

Maldives received a Hajj quota of 1,000 people this year.
