Atoll boats under tighter watch in drug crackdown

Drug Enforcement and Marine Police will jointly patrol the coast of Hulhumale 24 hours a day, starting Sunday.

More measures have been taken to check the circulation of drugs by strengthening checking of vessels travelling to the atolls.

Regarding the meeting held to prevent the circulation of drugs and alcohol and strengthen traffic management in the city, police said they have decided to deploy more traffic police on the roads of the city.

Police Commissioner Ali Shujau held a meeting with senior police officers from Central Policing Command, Operation Support Command and Drug Enforcement on Wednesday, to discuss curbing circulation of drugs and liquor and took key decisions.

Accordingly

  • Drug Enforcement and Marine Police to jointly patrol the coast of Hulhumale 24 hours a day

  • It was decided to make the vessels that leave for the rural areas and the goods that are unloaded from the docked vessels more manageable and circulable

The meeting also discussed traffic management in the city and decided to deploy more policemen on the roads to enhance traffic management, maintain public safety and security in schools, hospitals, public places and traffic congestion areas.

Police said the decisions will take effect from Sunday.
