President Dr Mohammed Muizzu has stated that Thilafushi has earmarked space for fiber workers in Villimale and that the work will be shifted to Thilafushi within a maximum of six months.

President Muizzu, who is campaigning for the ruling coalition candidate Azima Shukoor in the upcoming Mayoral election in Villimale this morning, said that land will be allocated to others besides those who are currently working in fiber work in Villimale as well.

The President noted that fiber work is not suitable for public residential areas.

"We tried then [in the previous government] to allocate a space for it in Thilafushi because it is a health hazard even if it is done on this island. Now it has been arranged," he said.

He said the site for the fiber work has already been identified and the work is underway.

“Within a maximum of six months, it will be moved to the area together in a very good manner to accommodate all parties and additional parties, and the Villimale fiber work will be completely transferred,” he said.

The President said the city council has now started doing many things that the city council could not do before without the support of the government when he was the mayor.

It is noteworthy that fiber works are now conducted on the east side of the island. The fiber shipyard previously on the southwest side was moved to the east beach area to start work on the Greater Male Connectivity Project.
