Another 10 MDP parliamentary tickets confirmed without primary

MDP has confirmed its contest in 88 constituencies.

10 more candidates have been confirmed for the 10 constituencies contesting this year's parliamentary elections without a primary. They include three Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) members of the current 19th parliament.

The MDP has already given tickets in 35 constituencies without a primary. So now a total of 45 tickets have been confirmed without a primary.

Two incumbent MDP MPs have secured their tickets out of the 10 constituencies announced on Monday:

  • Gemanafushi Constituency Member Ahmed Saeed

  • Henveiru North Constituency Member Ibrahim Muizzu

The two have been given tickets to contest the constituencies they already represent.

Former MDP Deputy Chairman and current Hulhumale MP Ali Niyaz has been given the ticket to contest Kurendhoo constituency.

In addition, Ahmed Saeed, who was the Managing Director of the Fenaka Corporation in the MDP government, has been confirmed for the Gaddhoo constituency.

On the 3rd of last month, the MDP announced the list of candidates without a primary. However, Saeed's name was later removed from the list.

The others announced on Monday are:

    Kanditheemu Constituency: Ameen Faisal, Dhoores/Sh. Kanditheemu

  • 2-

    Inguraidhoo Constituency: Saleem Hussain, Niyama/R. Kinolhas

  • 3-

    Huraa Constituency: Shathir Abdul Rahman, Bougainvillea/ Dh. Kudahuvadhoo

  • 4-

    Dhangethi Constituency: Rugiyya Mohammed, Dheyliyaage/ Lh. Hinnavaru

  • 5-

    Mulaku Constituency: Moosa Shiyam Abdul Rahman, M. Three-A-Villa/Male

  • 6-

    Gan Constituency: Abdullah Shareef, Mukurimagu, Sosun Villa/ L. Gan

On Sunday, the MDP announced primaries in 43 constituencies. The primaries will be held on the 3rd of next month. MDP has confirmed its contest in 88 constituencies.

There are 93 constituencies to be elected this time, and it is not yet clear whether the MDP will contest the remaining five constituencies or whether they will be given tickets without a primary. These include:

    Felidhoo Constituency

  • 3-

    Nilandhoo Constituency

  • 4-

    Thimarafushi Constituency

  • 5-

    Fuvahmulaku North Constituency

The party has yet to comment on the nomination of candidates for these constituencies.
