The Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) has issued caution regarding the circulation of educational certificates bearing a forged seal, as well as signature of an employee of the agency.

MQA announced on Monday that it had stopped stamping recognition seals to local degrees issued by registered higher education institutions in Maldives in September 2016. However, certificates with fake stamps are now circulating, the agency said.

MQA said the issue of fake certificates has come to its attention and it is a violation of the rights of its employees.

The announcement said:

  • This will raise questions among the public about the efforts to ensure the quality of higher education and training

  • This case of the fraudulent stamp will be reported to the appropriate authorities

  • Higher education providers and employers are asked to be vigilant.
