Parliament Speaker Mohammed Aslam and Vice Speaker Ahmed Saleem have been served of the notice of the no-confidence motion filed by the ruling PPM-PNC coalition lawmakers, parliament secretariat said Sunday.
The PPM-PNC filed a no-confidence motion against the two last Tuesday. The petition was signed by 23 members.
Parliamentary Communications Director Hassan Ziyau said in a message to the media group on Sunday that notices of the motions have been sent to Aslam and Saleem.
According to the parliament rules of procedure, the Secretary General must give 14 days notice of the motion within a maximum of three days of its receipt.
The no-confidence motion accused the speaker and his deputy:
-
The Government Oversight Committee held on 10th last month unanimously decided to recommend the approval of the members of the Cabinet
-
Although article 200(e) of the parliament rules stipulate that the matter should be tabled as soon as possible with the report, the matter was tabled on 18th last month, eight days after receipt of the report
-
The report was sent back to the committee without an opportunity for debate or a vote on the matter
The motion also said that Aslam acted in violation of parliament rules and Articles 70 and 75 of the Constitution. Once the deadline expires, the resolution will be scheduled for a sitting on February 19.
