Abdul Raheem elected Speaker, Nazim as Deputy

The secret ballot for the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament is conducted by a five-member ad hoc committee.

Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla has been elected as the Speaker of the Parliament, and Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim has been elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament.

Both Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 20th Parliament were elected by secret ballot among the members of the Parliament.

Hithadhoo South MP IbRaheem Nazil contested the vote against Abdul Raheem while Nazim was contested by Maradhoo MP Ahmed Didi in the vote for the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

In the vote to elect the Speaker of Parliament:

  • Abdul Raheem got 71 votes

  • Nazil got 14 votes

  • 7 votes were invalid

In the vote for the Deputy Speaker of Parliament:

  • Nazim got 80 votes

  • Ahmed Didi got 12 votes

The secret ballot for the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Parliament is conducted by a five-member ad hoc committee consisting of one member from each party.

The committee included:

  • PNC's Feydhoo South Constituency Member Ibrahim Didi

  • MDP’s Hanimaadhoo Constituency Member Abdul Ghafoor Moosa

  • JP’s Maamigili Constituency Member Gasim Ibrahim

  • NNP’s Maafannu North Constituency Mohammed Nazim

  • MDA’s  Velidhoo Constituency Member Mohammed Abbas
