The ruling coalition's chief lawmaker, Fonadhoo MP Moosa Siraj on X said his party does not wish to follow through with the motions at this time.
Ruling PPM/PNC on Wednesday has withdrawn the no-confidence motions filed against parliament Speaker Mohammed Aslam and Vice Speaker Ahmed Saleem.
The ruling coalition's chief lawmaker, Fonadhoo MP Moosa Siraj on X said his party does not wish to follow through with the motions at this time.
The PPM-PNC filed a no-confidence motion against the two last Tuesday. The petition was signed by 23 members.
The motions have been withdrawn after the parliament secretariat had served the mandated 14 day notice to the speaker and his deputy.
The motions were filed after the opposition controlled parliament had rejected three members of the 22 cabinet of incumbent president Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The ruling coalition does not have enough lawmakers to push through an impeachment.
The decision to abandon the move to impeach the Speaker and his deputy comes as president Muizzu has sought parliament approval for the three ministers he re-appointed mere hours after they were rejected.
The parliament however, has put the president's request on hold until it deliberates on a resolution submitted by an opposition lawmaker labelling the re-appointment as unconstitutional.
