An agreement has been signed to build an international airport in G.Dh. Thinadhoo.
Construction Minister Dr Abdullah Muthalib signed the airport agreement on behalf of the government at a meeting held in Thinadhoo on Tuesday evening.
The work was awarded to Pan Pacific, a Thai company.
The Construction and Infrastructure Ministry said the contractor will invest USD 400-600 million (MVR 6.1-9.2 billion) in the airport project.
According to the ministry;

The government will not spend anything on this project

The airport will be developed with a runway that can accommodate the largest aircrafts

In addition to a flight school, there will be a cargo facility, a fuel farm and an MRO facility to service aircrafts

This is one of the biggest foreign investments to come to Maldives

This will be a project that will boost tourism in the area
The contractor will also invest in tourism and other industrial activities under the project.
The construction of an international airport in Thinadhoo is a presidential pledge.
