According to the Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office), this is a peak period of the sunny season in the Maldives and people in the central islands can feel the temperature at 42 degrees on Monday.
Every year March and April are the hottest months in Maldives. According to the Met Office, the ‘feels like’ temperature is higher than the actual temperature. Thus:
-
Less clouds and calmer winds
-
High levels of humidity
The Met said this is a year of El Niño, a naturally occurring climate pattern every 2–7 years that involves the warming of the ocean surface. Therefore, this is also likely to contribute to the hike in temperature.
The temperature will peak after noon, around 2 pm on Monday.
April last year also was a month with high temperatures. Electricity consumption increased to record levels then.
