The ruling party People’s National Congress (PNC) has decided to take a case of anti-campaigning by the main opposition Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) in the upcoming parliamentary elections, to the Election Commission (EC).
At Thursday's press conference held at the party's office, PNC Campaign Spokesperson Heena Waleed said that the MDP is campaigning by "spreading lies". She said that is a matter of great concern to the PNC.
"We have observed that fake news, anti-campaigns are being carried out against us by paying social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter," she said.
Heena noted that anti-campaigning is against the Election Act.
“Therefore, we intend to submit the cases to the Election Commission,” Heena said.
