MET forecasts more rain, urges caution against flooding

Authorities are urging people to pay attention to the alerts, get the latest weather information and take precautions to stay safe.

Maldives Meteorological Services (Met) has forecasted rough seas in the next three days due to the intensification of the western monsoon, which is contributed to by cyclone Remal, which will cause formation of intense cloud bands and will bring heavy rain and strong winds over the country.

According to the Met Office’s Tuesday weather forecast, the agency expects:

  • Rain with strong winds

  • Normal winds 14 to 25 mph; Wind gusts will be between 45 and 55 mph 

  • The seas will be very rough

  • Some islands may get flooded at high tide

Therefore, the Met Office has advised seafarers to be vigilant.

It also asked the public to take precautions to avoid all the hazards that could be caused by heavy rains, strong winds and rough seas.

The Met Office is issuing alerts for different areas of the country when the weather worsens. Authorities are urging people to pay attention to the alerts, get the latest weather information and take precautions to stay safe.
