The captain of the speedboat that hit the foreigner who was fishing near Alifu Dhaalu Dhangethi has been remanded in custody for 15 days.
The Bangladeshi man was tragically severed in two when he was struck by the speedboat as he was fishing at the Ranveli shallow near Dhangethi on Saturday morning.
The speedboat captain was arrested on Saturday.
The captain was remanded in custody for 15 days after being taken to the Dhigurah in the same atoll court on Saturday.
Police are still investigating the incident.
The Bangladeshi was a crew on a grouper fishing boat that usually went fishing in the area and Dhangethi Councillor Imran told Atoll Times that the fishing boat was nearby at the time of the accident and the flag to indicate fishing activity in the area had also been hoisted, meaning all safety measures had been taken.
