
Sri Lanka-Maldives to sign agreement on crime prevention
The practical work of signing such an agreement between Sri Lanka and Maldives began in 2011 during the administration of former President Mohammed Nasheed.

President Mohammed Muizzu on Sunday decided to make an agreement with Sri Lanka to work together to prevent and curb criminal offences.
After discussing a paper submitted by the Foreign Ministry at the Cabinet meeting on Sunday, the President decided to submit the agreement to Parliament for approval.
The purpose of the agreement is to maintain the long-standing relationship between the two countries and to provide mutual assistance and cooperation to prevent criminal offences.
In addition, the President’s Office said that under this agreement, assistance in criminal matters is to be provided to the widest extent possible bilaterally in accordance with the laws and regulations of the country.
The practical work of signing such an agreement between Sri Lanka and Maldives began in 2011 during the administration of former President Mohammed Nasheed.
It is worth noting that Sri Lanka is a country with a large number of Maldivians living there and a destination where many Maldivians travel to regularly. In addition, a large number of Sri Lankans are employed in Maldives.
