Committee approves Habeeb to rights body
The committee unanimously approved his appointment at the meeting on Tuesday.
Human rights committee of the parliament on Tuesday approved the appointment of former Elections Commission (EC) Vice President Ismail Habeeb as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
The HRCM membership became vacant after the former vice president of the commission, Dr Ahmed Adham Abdulla, resigned from the post last October. The president sent him for appointment on 15th of this month.
The parliamentary human rights committee reviewing the case interviewed Habeeb on Monday. The committee unanimously approved his appointment at the meeting on Tuesday.

Habeeb resigned from the EC in March after serving two terms; According to the commission's law, a member can serve a maximum of two terms of five years
