Amid heavy rains, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is working to drain flooded streets in the capital city Male, in order to provide relief to citizens.
Perpetual rains have caused flooding in the city since morning.
Defence minister Mohammed Ghassan Maumoon said in a post on 'X' that the army has been deployed to the streets to provide assistance to the people and households affected by the rains.
The MNDF said its Fire and Rescue Service is working to drain the water in some areas of the city flooded due to heavy rains.
Maldives could receive up to a month of rain in the next three days, an Al Jazeera weather report said on Monday.
The weather report predicted heavy rainfall in the north and the capital in the coming days.
The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert for heavy rains with winds up to 50 mph in between Haa Alifu atoll and Alifu Dhaalu atoll.
231.5 mm of rainfall was recorded in H.A.Kelaa on Monday. Heavy rains have also caused flooding in many islands in the north.
