Higher education ministry on Wednesday handed over the development and operation of a junior college in N. Kendhikulhudhoo to Villa Educational Services under the Villa Group owned by Maamigili MP Qasim Ibrahim on Wednesday.

The 50-year agreement was signed at a ceremony held at the Higher Education Ministry Wednesday afternoon:

  • The agreement was signed on behalf of Villa College by the Vice Rector of Villa College Ali Najeeb

  • Permanent Secretary Fathimath Hilmy signed on behalf of the ministry

According to the ministry, Villa will build the college at its own cost.

The facilities at the college, according to the ministry, should be:

  • At least six classrooms

  • An ICT lab

  • An area dedicated to administrative work

  • A staff room

  • Student support services

  • Meeting room

  • Study room

  • Activity room

  • Student accommodation block

An 86,000-squarefeet land has been reserved for the construction of the college. The Villa company was given two years and three months to complete the construction of the college.

Higher education minister Ibrahim Hassan said that this is a great dream and hope of the government.

"The private sector has been very important in this endeavour to make the youth educated and skilled," he tweeted, referring to the signing of the project.

In April 2021, the higher education ministry had opened for interested individuals to build junior colleges at their own cost.

In the announcement to build a junior college in Kendhikulhudhoo, the same has been announced for HA. Dhidhdhoo. The construction of the college in Dhidhoo was awarded to V-Ava Investment in June.
