Government on Sunday appointed Mohamed Mauroof Jameel as the Managing Director (MD) of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

The appointment follows the resignation of Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed on Saturday.

Fazul stepped down amid ongoing investigations into corruption allegations related to the allocation of land and flats in Hulhumale. His passport has been seized as part of the inquiry.

Mauroof had served as the Director General of the Hulhumale Development Unit before the establishment of HDC. He has also held key positions within HDC and the Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC).

He also served as the Minister of Construction and Public Infrastructure.

Mauroof has been involved in initiatives related to architectural heritage.

The Binveriya project has faced scrutiny, including allegations of land in Phase 2 of Hulhumale being obtained through forged documents.

In response, HDC issued a statement asserting that all land for residential purposes in Phase 2 was sold through a bidding process in accordance with established regulations.
