MPL chief Wajeeh sacked
Wajeeh has family ties to Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim, Managing Director and Board Director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), has been dismissed.
The Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) announced the dismissal in a post on its X account Sunday evening. No official reason for the decision was disclosed.
Wajeeh holds a master’s degree in business from Anglia Ruskin University in the UK. He previously served as General Manager and Assistant General Manager of MPL and has also worked as a primary teacher in a school in Fuvahmulah.
Wajeeh has family ties to Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla. Last week, Ibrahim Faisal, son of Abdul Raheem, was also removed from his position as Minister of Tourism.
Reports suggested tensions between Abdul Raheem and President Mohamed Muizzu.
In an earlier interview with Atoll Times, several MPs stated that informal discussions had begun regarding the potential removal of Abdul Raheem as speaker of parliament. However, those discussions have since been put on hold.
