5 resorts in K. atoll chosen to diversify tourism

The Economic Ministry and the Tourism Ministry have decided to hold forums to familiarize the private sector with the visitor economy.

The Visitor Economy Council has decided to develop five resorts in Kaafu atoll in order to diversify tourism.

The Visitor Economy Council was established after the first cabinet meeting of the new government to promote various types of tourism in Maldives. 

  • The purpose of the council is to promote various types of tourism

  • The council will work with the government to promote other types of tourism such as health tourism, transportation and educational tourism

  • In addition, Maldives will be promoted as a tourism brand

President's Office Policy Minister Abdulla Nazim, while sharing the decisions taken at the council's last meeting on Tuesday at a conference, said that the meeting has decided what can be achieved by focusing on the visitor economy.

In addition, the Economic Ministry and the Tourism Ministry have decided to hold forums to familiarize the private sector with the visitor economy, he said.

“This will increase private sector participation in the industry,” Nazim said.

In addition, he said:

  • 5 resorts to be developed in the Kaafu atoll, specialised for the types of tourism that should be promoted in the country

  • The council has also decided on what can be done to realise these goals

“So, the Visitor Economy Council has decided to complete the development and marketing of five resorts in the Kaafu atoll by the end of 2026,” he said.
