HDC chief responds to PNC MP's concern over Hulhumale development

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Fazul Rasheed on Wednesday addressed concerns raised by PNC MP Hussain Shareef regarding the company's operations.
The exchange took place on social media, following a post by Hussain on 'X' (formerly Twitter), in which he described HDC as a "high burden" company.
In his post, Hussain shared a screenshot of a message from a concerned citizen, highlighting issues in Hulhumalé Phase Two. The message questioned how long it would take to address street lighting in the area, raising concerns about safety.
He asked:
-
"Can they tell me how long it will take to light the streets of Hulhumale’ Phase Two?"
-
"Will it take a vehicle hitting a pedestrian on the road to solve it, please tell me?"
-
The concern was centred on the lack of lighting in Phase Two's streets, which were described as dark and potentially hazardous for pedestrians.
Hussain, in sharing the message, questioned the level of service provided by HDC, writing, “What service is the big HDC providing to the people?” He asked.
In response, Fazul posted a statement on 'X' within half an hour, emphasising the ongoing work of HDC. He acknowledged that there were still tasks to be completed but stressed the company's commitment to the development of Hulhumalé.
“We are working tirelessly for the development of Hulhumalé. You have to accept that there will be work to be done and work to be completed,” Fazul stated, expressing confidence in the efforts of the HDC team.
“I am proud and grateful for the tireless work of the HDC staff.”
