IGMH area sees flooding relief with temporary system
President Muizzu, in the opening session of parliament, stated that China's assistance will be used to improve Male's roads.
Construction and Infrastructure Minister Dr Abdulla Muththolib said on Friday that the temporary drainage system installed in the western part of Male will not fully resolve the issue of road flooding, but has provided a temporary resolution.
This area, which includes the IGMH and STO flour warehouse, experiences significant flooding during heavy rains.
President Mohamed Muizzu has noted that a permanent solution will be achieved when the city’s roads are modernised.
Muththolib shared on social media on Friday that part of a joint project by the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Construction, and the RDC has already been completed. This project aims to provide a temporary solution to flooding in the West Park and IGMH areas of the city, he added.
“This work will not solve the problem of flooding altogether but it will reduce the difficulties faced by the people until the roads in the city are upgraded, making it easier to drain water using pumps,” Muththolib wrote.
He also mentioned that the stormwater management system is currently overseen by the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure.
President Muizzu, in the opening session of parliament, stated that China's assistance will be used to improve Male's roads starting this year.
