Maldives is set to experience brighter weather for the coming weekend, following a period of rough conditions.

Since last week, the weather had been unfavourable, characterised by strong winds and rough seas, leading to a yellow alert being issued for some parts of the country.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) had described this as typical rainfall for the end of the western monsoon season.

A MET Office official noted that the weather is now showing signs of improvement in various regions. Rainfall and affected areas have decreased, and wind speeds have reduced from 17-27 mph to 10-20 mph. The official predicted brighter conditions for the weekend.

However, the forecast for the central region indicates that showers and thundershowers are still expected. Details of the forecast include:

  • Wind: Southwest and west winds between 10 and 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph expected during cloudy periods.

  • Sea condition: Moderate to rough in the afternoon.

  • Wave height: 3-6 feet.

The MET Office had previously mentioned that the western monsoon is expected to continue until November, with rainfall persisting due to seasonal storms.
