Islamic minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has received a death threat, according to a statement released by the police Tuesday.

The police confirmed that the threat was reported via a letter filed on Monday. While an investigation is underway, no further details have been disclosed at this stage.

The development follows the circulation of screenshots on social media, allegedly showing remarks made by Shaheem in a Viber group. The remarks reportedly called for strict action against Shadiya Ahmed and Dr Shazra Ibrahim, both of whom were previously arrested for protesting and allegedly harassing ambassadors in relation to advocacy for Palestinian rights.

In response, Shazra tweeted criticism of Shaheem.

However, it remains unclear if the death threat is linked to these events.
